There are two types of spray foam insulation: open cell and closed cell. Open cell spray foam will expand to fill any hard-to-reach space, hermetically sealing the area and making it completely airtight. It is usually the cheaper of the two options, but it is less effective as an insulator. It won’t support the walls very much and could let in some air or vapor. Closed cell insulation is different because it is much denser. This quality makes it an incredible insulator and gives your home great protection against water, heat, and mold. Closed cell spray foam can also support the walls once the material hardens.
